Single Tax Filing Status
Single If your filing status on your federal return was Single, Head of Household, or Qualifying Widow(er), you must use Single Filing Status on your Virginia income tax return.
Married Filing Joint Married couples can use Married Filing Joint status if they filed a joint federal return, and both you and your spouse are Virginia residents. Non Residents and Part Year residents must statisfy additional filing requirements.
Married Filing Separate If you and your spouse filed separate federal returns, you may use this filing status. Non Residents and Part Year residents will have additional requirements.
